Ford Escort Mexico

The Ford Escort Mexico is a rally legend on one of the best handling cars of the period.

Here at IK Sport Classic we were excited to get stuck into the restoration of a genuine Mexico and bring the car back to life.

Our brief was simple, restore the body shell to its original specification and transport back to the customer as a rolling shell. We set to work stripping the shell before sending it away for shot blasting. Fortunately the metalwork was is relatively good condition with only replacement floors, cross members and light bulk-head repairs required. New panels were sourced from a mark specialist ready for fitting.

Once the shell had been fully braced, the old panels were carefully removed, the surrounding panels cleaned and dressed before finally fitting the new panels. At this stage it was time to epoxy prime the shell, apply filler where required then sand back ready for primer. The seams were then sealed on both the inside and outside of the shell before the final coat of primer, colour and clear coat. Before transporting the shell back to the customer, the suspension and running gear were installed for easy transport. This involved shot blasting the suspension components before painting in factory Black, installing new bushes and finally fixing to the shell.
