Ford Mustang
The iconic Ford Mustang is to many people the greatest American car ever produced. IK Sport Classic were lucky to be tasked with a complete restoration of this beautiful car.
This particular example had been in the same ownership for several decades having been originally used by the current owner during his time in California. On return to the UK he brought his beloved car back with him and after many years quietly parked in garage he felt it was time to breathe a new lease of life into the car.
After stripping the car down to a bare shell, we sent the car away to be shot blasted and coated in a weld-through primer. This allowed us to see all areas that required repair which included the complete floor and outer sills. Being a straight-6, part of the restoration process was to convert the car into a V8 so while repairing the corroded metal we also sourced a new V8 engine and performed the necessary alterations to allow it to fit.
Once the repairs had been completed we moved straight onto the paint process. This began with a coat of epoxy primer to seal the shell and provide a base for the filler. After completing the filler stage the car was primed and moved into our workshop to have a full dry-build.
The dry-build stage allows us to install all the running gear, main ancillaries and exterior trim before any paint has been applied to ensure correct fit and alignment. All components including the engine and running gear were fully rebuilt and painted by our in-house team to the highest possible standard. As soon as we were happy with the fit of all components the car was moved back into the bodyshop for final paint.
With the Prairie Bronze colour applied, clear coated and polished we set to work building up the car for the final time. This included complete install of the rebuilt engine, gearbox, suspension, running gear, exterior trim and interior all handled in-house. The car was then thoroughly road tested and given an MOT before handing over to the customer.
IK Sport Classic now provide annual maintenance, keeping the car in tip-top condition and ready for use at anytime.
